Leaded Brass Adding lead to the brasses in amounts from 0.5 to 4% results in free-cutting or free-machining alloys in which the elemental lead is present as uniformly dispersed particles. When the lead content is high, these brasses have relatively low ductility and plasticity. The mechanical properties or corrosion resistance and color are not materially affected by the presence of lead.
